U.S. Ambassador Bass Discusses Peace Efforts with Civil Society and Political Stakeholders

U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan John R. Bass met with civil society representatives at the U.S. Embassy this week.  During their meeting, Ambassador Bass provided an update on U.S. efforts to promote an intra-Afghan dialogue and peace in Afghanistan.  The Ambassador emphasized that the agreement in draft will only be finalized when all parties come to terms on mutual steps and commit to a full reduction of violence.  The Ambassador listened to the concerns raised by the civil society members and reaffirmed that the U.S. government has continuous contact with the Afghan Government through every step of the process.

Ambassador Bass also met with political stakeholders to update them on U.S. efforts.  They discussed the importance of an inclusive negotiating team comprised of both government and political figures prepared to engage in an intra-Afghan dialogue.
