On behalf of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, I extend our sincere condolences to the Afghan people and to the family of former interim President Sibghatullah Mojaddedi. Through his long career in public service and education, President Mojaddedi was a staunch advocate for Afghanistan. From serving as chairman of the Loya Jirga in 2003 and helping to approve the country’s constitution to his service on the Afghan High Peace Council, President Mojaddedi was invested in creating a peaceful future for all Afghans. We join the people of Afghanistan in remembering President Sibghatullah Mojaddedi on this national day of mourning.
