As of early December 2018, there are reports that militants plan to conduct attacks using suicide bombings and a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) against hotels, compounds, international organizations, universities, airports, and other locations frequented by U.S. citizens and other foreign nationals. There are also current, credible kidnapping and assassination plans by criminal and insurgent groups that are targeting Americans in Kabul.
The U.S. Embassy reminds U.S. citizens that, within the past month, insurgents staged a complex attack against Camp Anjuman, which housed foreign nationals. Additionally, over the past five years, insurgents have targeted places including the Park Star, Green Village, Baron Hotel, Intercontinental Hotel, Serena, Safi Landmark, and Kabul Star. Additionally, the U.S. Embassy reminds U.S. citizens that the upcoming holiday season provides an opportunity for insurgents to target the international community or institutions where U.S. citizens and foreign nationals gather.
While the Embassy takes reports of venues where foreigners congregate being targeted seriously, it is not currently modifying its security procedures.

- Be aware of your surroundings and local security developments.
