Emergency Message for U.S. Citizens

The U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan received the following information concerning threats to U.S. citizens living in Afghanistan:

As of mid-August 2015, Afghan Taliban insurgents are planning to carry out an attack against a compound possibly located in the Taimani area of Police District 4 in Kabul City, Kabul Province, Afghanistan.  Additionally, the insurgents may be planning attacks against several targets frequented by foreigners, including Hamid Karzai International Airport, vehicle repair and fueling facilities, and a barber shop along the Bagram road. No further information was available regarding the target, timing, or method of any planned attack. The U.S. Embassy is taking these threats seriously and advises U.S. citizens to avoid these areas if possible.

As a reminder, in accordance with the Travel Warning for Afghanistan, the Department of State warns U.S. citizens against travel to Afghanistan.  The security situation in Afghanistan is extremely unstable, and the threat to all U.S. citizens in Afghanistan remains critical. U.S. citizens currently visiting or residing in Afghanistan may wish to consider departing.  The Embassy strongly urges U.S. citizens who decide to remain in Afghanistan to review your personal security plans, take appropriate steps to enhance your personal safety, remain aware of your surroundings, monitor local media for updates, and maintain a high level of vigilance.
