Ambassador Wilson’s Statement on the Violent Assault on the U.S. Capitol

Last week’s violent assault on the U.S. Capitol as Congress met to certify the results of our presidential election and the victory of President-elect Biden captured public attention around the world.  Our elected representatives demonstrated anew the importance of the U.S. Constitution and laws for safeguarding our republic and our freedoms.  The United States, its institutions, and its people have proven to be remarkably resilient over the 244 years of our country’s existence.  We will get through our present divisions and will continue perfecting American democracy, which has been, and will continue to be, a force for freedom, liberty, and justice at home, here in Afghanistan, and around the world.  For those of us privileged to serve at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, these principles will continue to inspire us and guide our work.
